When Math Struggles Persist - There may be a reason

Take the Stress Away

My journey into dyscalculia began personally.

When my youngest child was in preschool, I started noticing subtle red flags — difficulty with number sense, counting, and subitizing. In stark contrast, her vocabulary was off the charts. By kindergarten, those concerns became more evident. Her teacher reported distracted behavior and misbehavior — but only during math time.

As an educator with over two decades of experience, I knew this wasn’t a motivation issue. Something wasn’t aligning. I began a deep dive into research and professional development, and that’s when I discovered dyscalculia. The description matched exactly what I had been observing — the gaps in number sense, the overwhelm, the math-specific frustration.

Naturally, I searched for a specialist. First locally. Then nationally.

And I couldn’t find one.

I wasn't able to find a trusted professional in the United States truly  specializing specifically in dyscalculia screening and intervention.

So I pursued training and a formal certification through the British Dyslexia Association in the planning and delivery of dyscalculia intervention, as well as certification in screening and support for dyscalculic learners.

What began as advocacy for my own child evolved into a professional mission: to bring structured screening, awareness, and meaningful support to families navigating persistent math challenges.
